Western Australia has initiated two rounds of Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS) tenders, aiming to secure 1.6 GW of renewable energy generation projects for the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM).
Australian Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen announced the two tender rounds last week. These tenders are part of the federal government’s “Clean Energy Investment Strategy,” which aims to secure 40 GW of renewable energy and energy storage projects by 2030.
The tenders will specifically target projects that will connect to the South West Interconnected System (SWIS) in Western Australia and subsequently integrate into the Western Australian Electricity Market (WEM).
