On July 28, the Kyrgyzstan Cabinet signed an agreement with Vietnamese energy company Rox Energy Global and RECA LLC to build a solar power plant with a total capacity of 1.9GW in Kyzyl-Oruk village, Issyk-Kul region, northeastern Kyrgyzstan.
As Central Asia’s largest photovoltaic project, it is scheduled for completion in 2027 and is expected to meet 20% of the country’s electricity demand annually while reducing CO₂ emissions by approximately 18 million tons.
Being the first GW-scale foreign-funded solar project in Central Asia, its “government subsidies + international financing + local operation” model provides a reference for countries like Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.
For instance, the project’s bifacial double-glass modules and smart inverter technologies have been included in Kyrgyzstan’s White Paper on Renewable Energy Technology Standards.
