2.7 GW! Saudi Arabia’s Leading Developer ACWA Power Commissions Projects with Chinese Suppliers

On August 22, 2025, Saudi Arabia’s renowned developer ACWA Power announced that its 2.7 GW solar photovoltaic project portfolio in Saudi Arabia has officially entered commercial operation.

The project portfolio includes three solar power plants: Al Kahfah, Ar Rass 2, and SAAD 2, with a total investment of 12.2 billion Saudi Riyals (approximately $3.3 billion or RMB 23.6 billion). This initiative will inject strong momentum into the local energy transition.

The installed capacities of the three plants are 1.4 GW, 1 GW, and 365.7 MW, respectively. ACWA Power holds a 50.1% majority stake in each project.

Notably, the current 1 GW capacity of the Ar Rass 2 project represents only half of its planned total capacity. Once fully completed, its total capacity will reach 2 GW. Meanwhile, with the newly commissioned 365.7 MW capacity, the SAAD 2 project has achieved its full operational target of 1.1 GW.
