500MW! Tajikistan’s First Large-Scale Solar Project Signed

On January 13 local time, the Tajikistan government reached a milestone agreement in the energy sector. The country officially signed an investment agreement with the investor Ayon Energy LLC, involving a total investment of $250 million to construct and operate two large-scale photovoltaic power stations with a combined installed capacity of 500MW.

This marks the official launch of Tajikistan’s first large-scale solar power project in history and represents a critical step in the country’s strategy to achieve energy diversification and green transition.

According to the agreement, the two planned photovoltaic power stations, each with a capacity of 250MW, will be built in the Asht District and the Jihon District of Tajikistan, respectively. The investor has committed to completing the design, construction, and grid connection of both power stations within 2026. Upon completion, the project will directly inject a substantial amount of clean electricity into Tajikistan’s national grid.
