600 MW! Meta Signs Solar Power Purchase Agreement with ENGIE

Tech giant Meta recently announced a new collaboration with ENGIE North America, signing an additional solar power purchase agreement (PPA) in Texas. This cooperation expands the combined capacity of the four projects from their original deal to over 1.3 GW. The newly added 600 MW capacity comes from a brand-new solar project developed by ENGIE. Once operational in 2027, it is expected to provide 100% clean energy support for Meta’s data centers in the United States.

According to the agreement, the additional renewable energy will be sourced entirely from the Swenson Ranch solar project, developed by ENGIE in Stonewall County, southeast of Lubbock, Texas. With a capacity of 600 MW, this project is the core of this expanded cooperation. Meta explicitly stated that it will purchase the entire electricity output from this project once operational, securing a green energy supply for its US data centers.

Notably, the Swenson Ranch solar project involves a planned investment of $900 million (approximately £674 million). It is expected to create over 350 technical jobs during the construction phase, positively impacting the local employment market. The project’s advancement will not only help Meta achieve its energy transition goals but will also inject momentum into the development of the renewable energy industry in Texas.
