Recently, the EPC contract for the 33 MW Ilute Solar Project in Zambia, undertaken by China Energy Engineering Group International Company and Northwest Electric Power Design Institute, was officially signed, marking the project’s full entry into the implementation phase.
Located west of Sesheke, a southern border city of Zambia, the project includes the construction of a solar power plant, transmission lines, and the upgrade of off-site substations. It covers engineering design, equipment procurement, installation and commissioning, trial operation, and maintenance. The project is scheduled to commence construction in October 2025.
As Zambia’s first renewable energy Independent Power Producer (IPP) project developed with the participation of an independent power purchaser, it establishes a replicable and sustainable model for energy development in Africa, serving as a significant demonstration initiative. Additionally, this project is the first renewable energy EPC project delivered by China Energy Engineering in Zambia, laying a solid foundation for further expansion into the Zambian and broader African regional markets.
