Ciel &Terre Commissions 11MW Floating Solar Project in France

Recently, French floating solar specialist Ciel & Terre announced the successful completion of the 11-megawatt peak (MWp) Saint-Elix floating solar project for local energy company SOLVEO Energies, marking another significant achievement in France’s renewable energy development.

According to the company, Ciel & Terre’s European team was fully involved in the project, responsible for the design, equipment supply, and construction of the floating platform. A total of 17,570 photovoltaic modules were installed on the platform, efficiently utilizing water surfaces for solar power generation. Ciel & Terre emphasized that quarry ponds are ideal sites for floating solar applications and hold enormous development potential. “Since 2024, we have already installed 100 MW of photovoltaic systems on quarry ponds in France alone,” the company stated.

Project partner SOLVEO Energies, headquartered in Toulouse, also revealed follow-up plans: an additional 4 MWp ground-mounted solar power plant will be constructed near the Saint-Elix floating solar project. According to the plan, once completed, the two plants will be connected and operated jointly, creating a synergistic “floating + ground-mounted” power generation model to further enhance regional clean energy supply capacity. SOLVEO Energies highly praised the project outcome: “We congratulate all teams on this outstanding achievement and extend our gratitude to Ciel & Terre International for delivering this project, which fully demonstrates their expertise in the floating solar sector.”

Notably, this is not Ciel & Terre’s only major project in France recently. Shortly before this, the company also collaborated with solar power producer Generale du Solaire to commission a 20 MWp floating solar power plant in Leutenheim, France. According to Ciel & Terre, this plant is the first of its scale in the region, providing crucial support for the local energy transition.
