According to a recent prediction by Japanese market research firm Fuji Keizai, the global perovskite solar cell market is expected to expand to 4 trillion yen by 2040 – approximately 67 times its 2024 size. Due to their thin, lightweight and flexible characteristics, these new solar cells are projected to gradually replace conventional solar technologies.
The agency estimates the global perovskite solar cell market will reach 147.6 billion yen in 2025, growing to 3.948 trillion yen by 2040. Japan’s domestic market is forecasted at 80 million yen in 2025, expanding to 34.2 billion yen by 2040.
This projection is based on development progress by companies like Ricoh and Panasonic. Sekisui Chemical and Sekisui Solar Frontier plan to commercialize perovskite solar cell production in 2025, with other firms including Toshiba expected to begin commercialization around 2027.
