Recently, industry associations and research institutions worldwide have generally revised upward their forecasts for new solar PV installations in 2025. The China Photovoltaic Industry Association (CPIA) has raised its global solar installation forecast from 531-583 GW to 570-630 GW, while increasing its projection for China’s new solar capacity from 215-255 GW to 270-300 GW. The European Solar Manufacturing Council (ESMC) predicts that, under optimistic conditions, global new solar installations could reach 744 GW this year. If solar module prices remain low, installation rates are expected to stay high.
China will continue to play a pivotal role, accounting for approximately 53% of global new solar installations.
