Hyundai Motor Group to Invest 1.3 Trillion KRW in Photovoltaic Power Generation

Hyundai Motor Group announced today a comprehensive investment totaling 9 trillion KRW (approximately 43.308 billion RMB based on current exchange rates) in the Saemangeum area of North Jeolla Province, South Korea. The investment spans AI data centers, the robotics industry chain, photovoltaic power generation, hydrogen energy, and smart city sectors.

Among this investment, 5.8 trillion KRW will be allocated for data center construction. This project will deploy 50,000 GPUs and is expected to begin construction in 2027 and be completed by 2029. A total of 1.3 trillion KRW will be dedicated to GW-scale photovoltaic power generation, securing the energy foundation for the overall investment. Another 1 trillion KRW will go towards a 200 MW water electrolysis hydrogen production facility, along with the simultaneous construction of supporting infrastructure such as hydrogen refueling stations. Hyundai Motor Group also announced plans to increase its water electrolysis hydrogen production capacity within South Korea to 1 GW. Furthermore, the group will invest 400 billion KRW in robotics manufacturing and component clusters, establishing a robotics production base with an annual capacity of 30,000 units. The AI hydrogen city project has also been allocated 400 billion KRW.
