JA Solar Plans $220 Million Investment to Build PV Production Complex in Egypt

Chinese photovoltaic giant JA Solar, in collaboration with investors from Egypt, the UAE, and Bahrain, plans to invest $220 million to build a solar energy complex in Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), supporting the development of a green economy.

According to a report by Daily News Egypt on August 27, 2025, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly witnessed the signing of a land usufruct agreement for a $220 million (approximately EGP 11 billion) solar energy complex project in the Suez Canal Economic Zone.
The project, named “Atom Solar Egypt,” involves investors from Egypt, the UAE, Bahrain, and China. It aims to establish an integrated industrial facility for the production of solar cells, modules, and energy storage systems.

The project will cover an area of 200,000 square meters in the Sokhna Industrial Zone and is expected to be completed within three years. It is projected to create 841 direct job opportunities.

The production capacity of the complex includes 2 gigawatts (GW) of solar cells, 2 GW of solar modules, and a 1 gigawatt-hour (GWh) energy storage system factory.

The entire output of the solar cell factory will be exported to global markets, while the products from the solar module factory will primarily supply the local Egyptian market as well as markets in the Middle East and Africa. The project also plans to gradually increase localization by incorporating more locally produced raw materials, such as Egyptian aluminum and glass, to support the development of the local industrial chain.

Investment partners include China’s JA Solar as a technology investor, Egypt’s AH Industrial Management, the UAE’s Global South Utilities, and Bahrain’s Infinity Capital.

Founded in 2005, JA Solar is a globally leading manufacturer of high-efficiency photovoltaic products, with operations spanning 165 countries. Its technical expertise provides strong support for the project. The agreement was signed by representatives of the developer TEDA-Egypt, Global South Utilities, AH Industrial Management, and Ahmed Abu Hashima, the founder of Atom Solar Egypt.
