On March 4 local time, the Mooi 240MW photovoltaic project in South Africa, undertaken by a consortium comprising China Energy Engineering International Group and Gezhouba Group, officially entered commercial operation. This is the largest single solar PV power station built by a Chinese enterprise in South Africa, marking another important achievement in clean energy cooperation between China and South Africa.
Located in the Noorport area of South Africa’s Northern Cape Province, the project’s core construction scope encompasses a 240MW photovoltaic power plant, along with complete supporting engineering facilities including step-up substations, switching stations, and transmission lines.
Once fully operational, the project is expected to generate approximately 700 million kWh of electricity annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 400,000 tons per year. It will effectively help South Africa optimize its energy supply structure, achieve green and low-carbon transformation and development, and inject strong green momentum into local economic and social progress.
