QatarEnergy today signed an agreement with South Korea’s Samsung C&T Engineering & Construction Group to commence the construction of the Dukhan Mega Solar Power Plant.
As one of the largest solar projects globally, it will be developed in two phases and is expected to achieve a total installed capacity of 2,000 megawatts (MW) by mid-2029. Upon completion, the project will double Qatar’s solar power generation capacity, significantly contributing to the country’s 2030 renewable energy goals.
Located 80 kilometers west of the capital Doha, the Dukhan Solar Plant will utilize advanced solar tracking systems and high-temperature resistant inverter technology. The first phase, with a capacity of 1,000 MW, will be connected to the national grid by the end of 2028. Once fully operational, the project is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 4.7 million tons annually and meet 30% of Qatar’s peak electricity demand, marking a key milestone in achieving the environmental sustainability objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
