In the Beja region of Portugal, the large Intermarché supermarket has been operating for decades. Its vibrant seasonal fruits and a wide array of daily necessities have made it a warm and familiar presence in the lives of local residents. Day after day, bustling crowds of customers attest to the supermarket’s vitality, but the high-quality products and services also come with substantial electricity demands. Rising electricity costs have gradually become a constraint on the sustainable development of this established supermarket.
The turning point came from the land’s most generous gift. With nearly 300 sunny days a year, the Beja region is rich in solar resources. Building a photovoltaic power station became the ideal solution for the transformation and development of Intermarché Beja. The 296.5 kW photovoltaic power station, planned and constructed by SEM IR Company, fully utilizes Aiko Solar’s high-efficiency N-type ABC modules, turning the supermarket’s electricity challenges into new opportunities for growth.
Thanks to their higher power output, Aiko’s ABC modules added 12.25 kW more installed capacity compared to the TOPCon module solution within the same rooftop area. This is equivalent to saving 50 square meters of valuable space, significantly improving the utilization efficiency of the limited rooftop area. Moreover, in the face of Beja’s high summer temperatures, Aiko’s ABC modules, with their lower temperature coefficient, maintain stable power generation performance even under hot conditions. In terms of long-term benefits, this leading technological advantage translates into tangible gains: an additional 43,000 kWh of electricity generated in the first year, and over a 30-year operational period, total electricity generation is expected to increase by 1.32 million kWh, cumulatively saving up to €170,000 in electricity costs.
Supermarket manager Mário Nunes shared his personal experience: “The performance of Aiko’s ABC modules has far exceeded our expectations. Not only is their power generation performance impressive, but the all-black design also meets functional needs while adding a modern touch to the building.”
