Norwegian renewable energy company Scatec ASA recently announced its successful bid for the Kroonstad PV cluster project under South Africa’s seventh round of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP). With a total installed capacity of 846 MW and an investment of approximately 13 billion South African Rand (around $735 million), this project marks a critical step in South Africa’s efforts to diversify its energy mix and advance its green economy transition.
Construction is expected to commence in 2026. Once operational, the project will significantly enhance grid stability in South Africa while creating substantial local employment opportunities.
