Sungrow Secures 220MWh Order in Italy

Italian independent power producer EP Produzione has placed an order with Chinese company Sungrow for a 100MW/220MWh PowerTitan 2.0 battery energy storage system, to be deployed in a project located in Trapani, Sicily.

This two-hour energy storage system will provide frequency regulation, peak shaving, valley filling, and system balancing functions, helping to enhance grid stability in regions with high photovoltaic penetration. Sungrow will deliver 44 PowerTitan 2.0 units. The system adopts an AC-integrated solution, with batteries and power conversion systems housed within the same 20-foot cabinet, thereby shortening installation time and improving control efficiency.

This move comes ahead of Italy’s first MACSE (Capacity Procurement Mechanism for Electricity Storage) auction, scheduled for September 30. Led by transmission system operator Terna, the MACSE mechanism will provide capacity compensation to energy storage operators and enable them to participate in a centralized market where renewable energy generators can procure peak-shifting services.
