The Syrian Ministry of Energy on Thursday signed an agreement with an international consortium led by Qatar’s UCC Holdings Group to jointly construct four new power plants with a total capacity of 5,000 megawatts. These projects will innovatively adopt a hybrid natural gas and solar power generation model, marking one of Syria’s largest strategic energy initiatives since 2011.
According to a statement released by the Syrian Ministry of Energy on its official Telegram channel, the signed projects include four main power plants and a series of supporting solar power facilities: a 1,200 MW plant will be built in northern Aleppo, a 1,000 MW plant in Deir ez-Zor Province, another 1,000 MW plant in the Zizun area, and an 800 MW plant in the Al-Mahadah region. Additionally, 1,000 MW of solar power projects will be developed simultaneously across four different locations, creating a diversified “gas-solar complementary” energy structure.
