TotalEnergies and ACWA Power Consortium Wins 400 MW Saudi Solar Project

Recently, a consortium comprising France’s TotalEnergies and Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power (AEW) has been successfully awarded the contract for the 400 MW As Sufun solar power plant project in Saudi Arabia. The project was granted development, construction, and operation rights through a competitive tender process by the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC). Once operational, it will supply clean energy to approximately 68,000 households in the Kingdom, supporting the country’s energy mix transition.

According to the 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) signed by the parties, all electricity generated by the plant will be sold to SPPC. The project is planned to commence commercial operation in 2027. As a key component of the sixth round under Saudi Arabia’s National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), its development aligns closely with the Kingdom’s “Vision 2030” and will provide crucial support for the country’s goals of reducing reliance on liquid fuels and increasing the share of renewable energy.

The core objective of Saudi Arabia’s NREP is to raise the share of renewable energy in the power mix to 50% by 2030, driving the nation’s transition towards a cleaner, lower-carbon energy structure. The successful award of the As Sufun solar project marks a significant milestone in the advancement of this program and will further accelerate the development of Saudi Arabia’s renewable energy industry.
