Recently, Solar Organic Centro España announced plans to construct a solar module and cell manufacturing plant with a capacity of 10GW in the Castilla-La Mancha Autonomous Region of Spain. The plant will be located in Socuéllamos, Ciudad Real.
Last week, the company held a working meeting with representatives of the Castilla-La Mancha Autonomous Regional Government to advance the planning of the plant. According to Solar Organic, the factory will utilize unspecified technology from Taiwan, China, to produce monocrystalline PERC and n-type TOPCon cell modules. Once the production line is completed, it will be capable of manufacturing modules with maximum dimensions of 2500mm × 1400mm.
Currently, the company has not disclosed a specific timeline for the construction and completion of the project. However, the Castilla-La Mancha Autonomous Regional Government stated that this project is classified as a priority, and the government has “taken a step forward” by simplifying the approval process for the developer to obtain European aid.
This plant is one of the largest solar manufacturing facilities planned to be built in Europe. To support clean energy manufacturing within its borders, the European Union has introduced multiple initiatives and recently established a €3.4 billion fund to support clean energy and energy storage system manufacturing projects.
Although progress has been limited so far, several European companies are advancing the construction of solar manufacturing capacity. Earlier this year, Chinese photovoltaic manufacturer DAS Solar began construction of a 3GW module assembly plant in France, while photovoltaic startup Carbon is also developing manufacturing capacity in France.
