5.5 Billion KRW! KIER and Flexell Space Sign Technology Transfer Agreement for Space Solar Cells

Recently, the Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER) and Flexell Space announced the signing of a technology transfer agreement for ultra-lightweight flexible CIGS (copper, indium, gallium, selenium) solar cell process technology and know-how, aiming to develop next-generation tandem solar cells for space applications (CIGS/perovskite double-junction solar cells).

Space solar cell company Flexell Space will acquire KIER’s ultra-lightweight flexible CIGS solar cell technology to jointly develop ultra-lightweight thin-film double-junction solar cells optimized for the lifespan and performance of small satellites. The collaboration will also focus on market development to replace existing III-V-based space solar cells. The total project funding amounts to 5.5 billion KRW (approximately 4 million USD).
