Egyptian Prime Minister Witnesses Signing of “Atom Solar Egypt” Project to Drive Green Economic Transition

On August 27, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly witnessed the signing of the land usufruct agreement for the “Atom Solar Egypt” project at the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), marking the official launch of an integrated solar industrial park with a total investment of $220 million.

The project, jointly developed by investors from Egypt, China, Bahrain, and the UAE, will be located in the Sokhna Industrial Zone, covering an area of 200,000 square meters. It is planned to be completed in three phases over three years. The core facilities include three factories with an annual production capacity of 2 GW of solar cells, 2 GW of photovoltaic modules, and 1 GWh of energy storage systems. The solar cells will be entirely exported to global markets, while the photovoltaic modules will primarily supply the local Egyptian market as well as the Middle East and Africa regions. The project is expected to create 841 direct jobs and will enhance the localization rate of products by utilizing local raw materials such as Egyptian aluminum and glass.

Chinese company JA Solar, as a technical investor, will provide core process support for the project. JA Solar has previously supplied all high-efficiency modules for Africa’s largest solar-plus-storage project, “Abydos II 1GW+600MWh,” and participated in the construction of the Kom Ombo 560MW photovoltaic power station. Additionally, UAE’s Global South Utilities, Bahrain’s Infinity Capital, and Egypt’s AH Industrial Management will complement each other in areas such as funding and operations to ensure the full-chain implementation of the project.
