On September 16, the World Economic Forum (WEF) announced the latest list of “Lighthouse Factories,” with 12 new factories globally joining the ranks. Tongwei Solar Meishan Company was the only factory in the global photovoltaic industry selected in this batch, marking the birth of the world’s first “Lighthouse Factory” in the field of photovoltaic cell manufacturing. This achievement not only represents the first “Lighthouse Factory” from a local enterprise in Sichuan Province but also signifies another leap forward for China’s photovoltaic industry in intelligent manufacturing and digital transformation.
The “Lighthouse Factory” recognition, jointly awarded by the World Economic Forum and McKinsey & Company, aims to honor exemplary advanced manufacturing sites that demonstrate excellence in productivity, supply chain resilience, sustainability, talent development, and customer-centricity. To date, 201 factories worldwide have received this certification, with China accounting for over 40% of the total. Tongwei Solar Meishan Company stands out as the only case focused on photovoltaic cell manufacturing. This honor not only acknowledges Tongwei’s innovative efforts in intelligent manufacturing but also provides a replicable and scalable transformation model for the global photovoltaic industry.
