October 14, 2025 – Tech giant Apple announced it is increasing its investment in the European clean energy sector and is currently advancing the construction of large-scale solar and wind farms in five countries: Greece, Italy, Latvia, Poland, and Romania . Concurrently, a new solar array in Spain has officially become operational . These projects collectively represent Apple’s new renewable energy layout in Europe .
According to Apple, these projects will add 650 megawatts of renewable energy capacity to the European power grid in the coming years . By 2030, they are expected to generate over 1 million megawatt-hours of clean electricity for Apple users . This initiative is closely related to Apple’s focus on carbon emissions from device energy consumption – data shows that in 2024, the product use phase (including energy required for charging and operating devices) accounted for about 29% of Apple’s total greenhouse gas emissions . “By 2030, we want our users to know that all the energy it takes to charge their iPhone or power their Mac is matched with clean electricity,” said Lisa Jackson, Apple’s vice president of Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives .
Jackson stated that the new European布局 is not only a key step towards achieving Apple’s “2030 goal” but will also contribute to healthy communities, economic vitality, and energy security across the continent .
It is noteworthy that environmental organizations are growing increasingly concerned about the high energy consumption of the tech industry, with data centers becoming a focal point . For example, Ireland currently has over 80 data centers, consuming 22% of the country’s total electricity, and this proportion is expected to continue rising . Apple itself previously faced challenges with its data center plans in Europe – in 2018, the company abandoned plans to build an €850 million data center in Athenry, County Galway, Ireland, due to prolonged legal disputes which caused project delays .
