Recently, according to reports from local Turkish media, Turkish solar module manufacturer Alfa Solar officially signed a joint venture agreement with Astronergy Europe. They announced plans to jointly build an integrated wafer and solar cell production base in Balıkesir Province, Turkey.
According to a joint statement from both parties, the project focuses on a full industry chain layout. The initial planned annual production capacity reaches 2.5GW, covering the entire process of solar wafer manufacturing and cell production, achieving an integrated production closed loop. The investment scale for the first phase of the project is estimated to be USD 200 million, with funds primarily allocated to factory construction, equipment procurement, and technology investment. Regarding the equity structure, upon completion of all planned equity transfer and capital increase procedures, Alfa Solar and Astronergy Europe will each hold 50% of the joint venture company, forming an operational model of equal partnership.
As a representative enterprise in Turkey’s PV module manufacturing sector, Alfa Solar possesses advantages in local industrial resources and market channels. Astronergy Europe, leveraging its parent company’s technical expertise, has extensive experience in PV production processes and global operations. Both parties stated that the agreement has clarified core cooperation principles such as technology sharing and risk sharing. Currently, a key milestone for the project’s advancement is obtaining approval from local regulatory authorities, and further developments will be disclosed promptly.
Industry insiders point out that the establishment of this base will fill the production capacity gap for high-efficiency PV wafers and cells in Turkey. Simultaneously, leveraging the geographical advantages of the location, it will radiate influence to the European and Middle Eastern markets, holding significant importance for improving the regional PV supply chain.
