According to Nigerian media reports, domestic energy company Tranos Group has officially begun construction of a new energy manufacturing base in Sagamu, Ogun State. The factory, with an annual production capacity of 800MW solar modules, marks a critical step for Nigeria in the renewable energy sector. It is expected to break the long-standing reliance on imports and drive the transformation of West Africa’s energy landscape.
Founded in 2015, Tranos Group previously focused on PV product imports and EPC contracting. The new factory will incorporate AI-powered quality inspection systems and an IoT traceability platform to enable full lifecycle management from raw materials to finished products. Jude Abarakwe, Managing Director of Tranos, revealed that the company is also collaborating with Germany’s Fraunhofer Institute to develop perovskite-crystalline silicon tandem cells, with plans to launch next-generation products achieving 28% efficiency by 2028.
