India’s PV Capacity Soars Amid Persistent Localization Challenges

The latest India Solar Supply Chain Map (2025) report by international quality inspection agency Sinovoltaics reveals that India’s photovoltaic module capacity has reached 68.4 GW, cell capacity 24.56 GW, and ingot capacity 14 GW, with a network of 171 factories propelling the country toward becoming a “global PV super factory.” However, behind this expansion lies an “Achilles’ heel”—heavy reliance on imported raw materials and equipment—posing a critical test for the sustainability of this emerging manufacturing giant.
