Top microinverters of 2023: Efficiency rankings revealed

Microinverters are gaining popularity in solar PV markets due to their efficient power conversion, reliability, independent MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) technology, flexible configuration, intelligent monitoring, long lifespan, and easy installation.

As distributed PV installations rise, the demand for microinverters is skyrocketing.

A report by Mordor Intelligence projects the microinverter market to reach $3.15 billion by 2024 and $7.74 billion by 2029, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 19.70%. Global demand is expected to hit 12.44 GW by 2025.

Solarbe’s survey of major microinverter manufacturers shows SOFAR leading with a peak conversion efficiency of 97.50%, followed by TSUN at 97.20%.

SAJ, APsystems, and Senergy tie for third with 97.00%. Other companies also boast high efficiencies, exceeding 96.5%.

SOFAR, a top-five PV inverter brand in China and a world-leading energy storage provider, achieves 97.5% peak efficiency. Its microinverters can maintain full-load output at 60°C and offer module-level MPPT input, boosting energy output by 5%. They also feature rapid shutdown (RSD) and long-life solutions without electrolytic capacitors, ideal for home balconies and rooftops.

TSUN specializes in microinverter products and energy storage solutions, using advanced technologies like micro inverter topology, soft-switching, and active parallel power modules to achieve 97.2% peak efficiency. This places TSUN at the forefront of the industry, enhancing PV system efficiency.

APsystems excels in technology, products, distribution, and branding. Its fourth-generation microinverters reach 97% peak efficiency. With over 5 GW of module-level power electronics (MLPE) devices sold in more than 130 countries, APsystems demonstrates extensive global application.

Hoymiles focuses on the microinverter market with high power conversion efficiency and a peak efficiency of 96.7%. Its microinverters offer module-level monitoring, allowing real-time tracking of device performance and power generation. In 2023, Hoymiles reported sales of 1.414 billion RMB from microinverters and monitoring equipment, with 1.3188 million units sold.
