Total Capacity Reaches 13GW! India Releases ALMM List for Solar Cell Manufacturers

On July 31, 2025, India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) officially unveiled the first “Approved List of Models and Manufacturers” (ALMM) – List II for solar cells. The list includes nine domestic manufacturers with a combined production capacity of 13,067 MW, which will come into effect from July 1, 2026.

The ALMM list, introduced by MNRE, serves two primary purposes:

  1. Quality Assurance: To ensure that components used in all government-backed solar projects meet reliable quality standards, preventing potential issues caused by substandard products that could compromise the stability and efficiency of solar power systems.
  2. Domestic Industry Protection: By restricting the entry of imported products into the Indian market, the policy aims to safeguard and promote local solar cell and module manufacturers, reducing dependence on foreign products and fostering indigenous industry growth.

Only manufacturers included in the ALMM list are eligible to participate in India’s government solar projects, government-funded initiatives, and other state-supported solar programs.
