Trina Solar’s Gao Jifan: Innovative Development of Tandem Passivation Film Technology and Advanced Metallization Technology

Recently, Gao Jifan, Chairman and General Manager of Trina Solar (SH:688599), stated in an exclusive interview with investors that in the currently mainstream TOPCon technology field, the company has pioneered an in-depth study of inverted pyramid morphology preparation technology and its light-trapping principles this year. Innovatively, Trina Solar has developed tandem passivation film technology and advanced metallization technology, achieving a 0.08% increase in cell efficiency and a 1.5W improvement in module power, positioning the company at an industry-leading level.

In terms of cost reduction, by developing a low-cost metal technology route, the company has reduced silver usage by approximately 3mg/W while maintaining cell efficiency parity. Modules fabricated using low-cost metal cells have passed Trina Solar’s internally stringent 3x IEC reliability tests, demonstrating industry-leading performance.

Gao Jifan further emphasized that improvements in efficiency and reliability, coupled with cost reductions, fully highlight the technical potential and development prospects of TOPCon cells. These advancements further solidify the competitive advantages of TOPCon technology, laying a robust foundation for the company to continue leading the development of photovoltaic technology. Meanwhile, Trina Solar is actively advancing next-generation technologies, particularly in the perovskite/crystalline silicon tandem field. The company has achieved breakthroughs in several key technologies, setting multiple world records this year.

In April 2025, Trina Solar entered into an exclusive patent licensing agreement with Oxford PV, securing the rights to use Oxford PV’s perovskite/crystalline silicon tandem technology patents in mainland China. Both parties will collaborate to promote the industrialization of this technology.
