Syria Plans to Build a 100MW Photovoltaic Power Station

Recently, Syria’s state-owned General Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company officially signed an agreement with the Syrian-Turkish Energy Company (STE) to build a 100MW solar power station in the Kafr Bemm region of Hama Province, approximately 210 kilometers north of Damascus. The implementation of this project will mark a significant step in Syria’s renewable energy development.

According to Khaled Abu Di, General Manager of the state-owned General Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company, the power station will be connected to the 230 kV high-voltage grid upon completion. The construction period is expected to be 12 months, and the station will immediately operate at full capacity once finished. He emphasized that this cooperation was finalized after months of evaluating multiple proposals, thoroughly considering the project’s efficiency and economic feasibility, with the aim of providing stable support for local electricity supply.

Farmers in the area say they need reliable power supply to pump some 60 metres deep (nearly 200 feet) to reach groundwater now — compared to just 30 metres a few years back.
