On September 15, the Romanian Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE) released an update on the country’s renewable energy project developments. As of August 1, 2025, among projects with a maximum grid connection capacity of 1 MW or more, Romania has 1,283 renewable energy projects holding valid technical grid connection permits, representing a total grid capacity of over 62,300 MW. Among these, 834 projects have signed grid connection contracts, totaling approximately 40,000 MW in capacity, while 468 projects have obtained construction permits, amounting to 18,737 MW. Only 163 projects have secured all necessary permits—including technical grid connection approval, grid connection contracts, construction permits, and establishment authorization issued by ANRE—with a total capacity of 6,772 MW. Among these fully permitted projects, 48 will deploy energy storage facilities, contributing a total capacity of 2,351 MW.
Compared to the situation on July 1, the number of technical grid connection permits increased by 0.23%, grid connection contracts rose by 4.25%, projects with construction permits grew by 7.95%, and projects with all required permits (including ANRE establishment authorization) increased by 5.16%.
Although the number of fully permitted projects remains relatively low across all developments under processing, the growth in figures from July 1 to August 1 indicates that projects are continuing to advance.
