Ignite Energy Access, an Abu Dhabi-based off-grid energy provider focused on the African market, has announced the successful commissioning of 15 new solar mini-grids in rural Zambia. These projects are part of the EU-supported “Integrated Approach to Electricity and Renewable Energy Production” (IAEREP) program, aimed at improving local infrastructure and electricity supply.
Ignite Energy Access was established following the acquisition of ENGIE Energy Access by Ignis Power in September 2025. The newly commissioned projects are part of a portfolio of 60 mini-grids currently under development by the company, expected to provide electricity to thousands of households, schools, healthcare facilities, and small businesses. The company emphasized that these projects will contribute to socio-economic growth in rural Zambia. According to the plan, Ignite aims to add 30 more mini-grids by early 2026, ultimately supporting Zambia’s national “1,000 Mini-Grid Program” to enhance rural electrification rates.
