China’s national carbon trading system opens today

At 9:30, July 16th, the national carbon emission trading system of China is officially launched in Shanghai Environment and Energy Exchange. The first transaction was made at 52.78 yuan/ton for 160,000 tons.

Zhao Yingmin, Vice Minister of Ecology and Environment said that, the first batch of enterprises involved in carbon emission trade emit over 4 billion tons of carbon dioxide. This means that once the carbon trading market is launched, it will become the largest carbon market in the world.
