Iranian President: Accelerate Construction of Solar Power Plants and Remove Obstacles to Renewable Energy Development

Recently, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized the strategic importance of solar energy, explicitly called for accelerating the construction process of solar power plants, and stated that his administration is determined to remove all obstacles hindering the development of renewable energy.

These remarks were made during the inauguration ceremony of a 250-megawatt solar power plant held on Saturday. In his speech, Pezeshkian pointed out that the government will proactively address and resolve any issues impeding the rapid progress of solar projects. Simultaneously, it will create a more convenient and favorable environment for private sector participation in the renewable energy field to stimulate industry vitality.

On the topic of energy security, Pezeshkian emphasized that ensuring sufficient domestic electricity supply is one of the government’s core priorities. He stated clearly: “We must take concrete actions to ensure that no factories face power shortages next summer. This goal has been included in the government’s primary work agenda.”

Elaborating on the multiple benefits of solar energy development, the President further explained: Expanding the scope of solar applications can not only directly alleviate current electricity shortages but also, by significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions, take a crucial step for Iran’s environmental protection efforts, achieving synergistic development of energy and ecology.

Furthermore, Pezeshkian specifically proposed that Iran needs to focus on solar energy development in its southern regions, particularly the coastal areas along the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. He explained that the government has formulated comprehensive development plans for these coastal zones, where the need for constructing seawater desalination facilities is particularly urgent. This makes solar projects in these regions irreplaceably important for promoting sustainable regional development.
