Recently, Jolywood (Suzhou) Sunwatt Co., Ltd. (SZ: 300393) stated during an investor survey that the transition from TOPCon technology to BC technology is a major industry trend. The company was one of the early developers of IBC technology in the industry and has achieved mass production, though costs were relatively high at the time. As a result, the company began R&D on silver-free, low-cost, high-efficiency BC cells in 2019, integrating TOPCon and IBC to develop TBC technology, which has now completed pilot testing.
Jolywood also disclosed that it plans to build on its existing 16GW TOPCon cell factory in Shanxi. Based on the company’s actual conditions and market conditions, it will gradually upgrade part of its production lines to BC technology while continuing its TOPCon operations. The TBC technology requires two additional process steps compared to TOPCon, including the addition of laser and coating equipment. The cost of this transformation has not yet been formally calculated.
