According to a report by Algerian media on November 10, Algeria set a historical record for solar panel imports from China in the first nine months of 2025, reaching 1.4 gigawatts (GW)—a 70-fold increase compared to the same period in 2024, which recorded only about 20 megawatts (MW). This surge highlights the accelerated progress of Algeria’s renewable energy projects.
In 2024, Algeria formulated a plan to construct 20 solar power plants, including 15 with a total capacity of nearly 2 GW and an additional five with a combined capacity of 1 GW. By the end of 2024, the country’s installed renewable energy capacity stood at 601 MW. The completion of new solar power stations in the coming years is expected to significantly enhance Algeria’s renewable energy generation capacity.
