From April 1 to 3, 2026, the 14th International Energy Storage Summit and Exhibition (ESIE 2026) will be held in Beijing. At the exhibition, Haichen Energy Storage officially released the complete results of its large-scale fire test on the ∞Power 6.25 MWh, 4-hour long-duration energy storage system and was awarded a large-scale fire-test certification certificate by UL Solutions, an internationally recognized authority. This is the world’s first long-term energy storage system with a thousand-hour battery core opening fire test , setting a new industry benchmark for the safety verification of long-term energy storage systems.

in the certification process, Chen chi, senior product manager of UL Solutions energy and automation Asia Pacific division, said, UL 9540A Version 6 (released in March 2026) has upgraded safety verification from batteries and modules to real fire scenarios at the whole cabinet and whole station level. This time, Hecen Energy Storage’s 6.25MWh long-duration energy storage system, featuring kilo-ampere-hour-class batteries, underwent a full-door, large-scale fire test in strict accordance with this version, simulating the most hazardous “unconfined” fully developed fire scenario. It successfully passed extreme-condition testing, demonstrating the reliability of its passive safety design for long-duration energy storage systems and providing important practical guidance for refining global energy-storage safety standards.

This certification signifies that Haichen Energy Storage products have achieved an internationally leading level of safety. As the sixth edition of UL 9540A has been adopted by regulatory authorities in the United States, Europe, Australia, the Middle East, and other regions as an additional market-access requirement, passing this test signifies that the company’s 6.25MWh long-duration energy storage system now meets these stringent market-entry criteria, thereby establishing a robust safety foundation for its global expansion.

previously, under the witness of UL Solutions and other authorities and experts, the 6.25MWh 4h long-term energy storage system has carried out limit fire verification in strict accordance with the latest standards of UL9540A 2025 and NFPA855-2026. The test setup maintained the prefabricated container with both doors fully open, arranged “back-to-back, side-by-side” at a minimal 15cm spacing, and operated the battery cells at 100% state of charge (SOC) while actively disabling the automatic fire-suppression system. These stringent boundary conditions were employed to comprehensively validate the overall safety performance of the high-energy-density energy-storage system.

Test results showed that, under sustained combustion conditions, the system successfully contained the fire within a single pre-fabricated module, preventing thermal spread to adjacent modules. After the fire was extinguished, the steel module structure remained intact, with no significant collapse or structural deformation. This confirms its reliable performance in real-fire scenarios, maintaining both structural integrity and functional isolation. The results provide a reproducible, traceable, and credible safety engineering benchmark for the large-scale deployment of long-duration energy storage systems worldwide.
