On March 25, 2026, the National Energy Yuci Energy Storage Construction Project undertaken by the Energy Construction Branch successfully completed various processes of grid connection and operation, and successfully connected to the power grid system and officially put into operation. This milestone event marks the company in this new type of energy storage subdivision field to achieve zero breakthrough, engineering construction capacity and core technical strength has been further tempered and improved, for the company to expand the new energy storage business, deep-cultivated energy transformation track to build a solid foundation.
As HuaDian Science & Engineering’s first flywheel energy-storage demonstration project, this initiative carries the dual mission of technological exploration and market expansion. The core construction component of the project is an 8 MW/800 kWh maglev flywheel energy-storage unit. As the leading technology for efficient, clean mechanical energy storage today, flywheel energy storage stands out for its non-chemical operation and strong environmental adaptability. It also offers key advantages such as rapid response, high safety and reliability, long service life, and low operations and maintenance costs. With a response time of 10 to 50 milliseconds and a charge–discharge cycle life exceeding one million cycles, flywheel energy storage precisely meets the power system’s core requirements for primary frequency regulation—rapid frequency stabilization and fail-safe backup—thereby providing reliable support for grid frequency stability.
As the “first line of defense” for power system frequency stability, primary frequency modulation is directly related to the reliability and safety of power supply. Once commissioned, the project will enable coordinated frequency regulation with the generating units, effectively enhancing Shanxi’s power grid frequency-regulation capability and operational stability. It will support dynamic balance within the regional power system and safeguard the safe and reliable operation of Shanxi’s power grid. Meanwhile, by participating in grid ancillary services, the project will enable the enterprise to receive appropriate economic compensation, thereby achieving a dual enhancement of social and economic benefits. This not only contributes to the optimization and upgrading of the regional energy structure but also helps the company accumulate valuable experience in the market-oriented development of new energy storage technologies.
Going forward, the Energy Construction Branch will take the commissioning of this project as an opportunity to consolidate its experience in flywheel energy-storage project construction, deepen its commitment to the new energy-storage sector, and focus on technological innovation and project quality improvement. By continuously enhancing its core competitiveness and actively expanding its energy-storage business portfolio, the branch aims to provide strong impetus for the company’s green transformation and high-quality development.
