On April 9, the five provinces and regions of Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou, and Hainan operated by China Southern Power Grid reached a record high in new energy power and electricity. The maximum power generation output exceeded the 0.1 billion-kilowatt mark for the first time, and the single-day power generation reached 1.4 billion kilowatt-hours. It accounted for 30% of the total power generation on that day. The proportion of new energy in the power consumption in the southern region continued to increase, and the energy transformation effect continued to show. Up to now, the total installed capacity of new energy in the southern region has exceeded 0.28 billion kilowatts, accounting for more than 40% of the total installed power supply.
Ding Xiaobing, deputy general manager of China Southern Power Dispatching and Control Center, said that in the current complex and changeable international energy situation, green power is becoming an important force to ensure energy security and promote high-quality development. Data show that since 2026, the new energy power generation in the operating area of China Southern Power Grid has increased by more than 20% year-on-year, effectively filling the gap in traditional power supply.
The large market strongly supports the cross-regional flow of power resources. China Southern Power Grid gives full play to the role of the hub of the West-East Power Transmission Platform and the core function of optimizing the allocation of resources in the regional power market. In the first quarter of 2026, the power transmission from West to East reached 41.5 billion kWh, an increase of 4.7 billion kWh compared with the plan, a year-on-year increase of 13.3 percent, a record high for the same period in history.
Ding Xiaobing said that China Southern Power Grid will continue to do a good job in the regulation and consumption of new energy, continuously improve the coordination mechanism of the regional power market, promote the full participation of new energy in power market-oriented transactions, help realize the “double carbon” goal with the high-quality development of new energy, and provide stable and reliable power security for the high-quality economic and social development of the five southern provinces.
