Ruichang International Calcium-based Thermochemical Energy Storage Project Approved for Provincial Key Research and Development Projects

recently, the list of key research and development projects in Henan province in 2026 was officially announced. the calcium-based thermochemical energy storage comprehensive energy-saving and low-carbon technology development project led by ruichang international’s new energy storage technology division was successfully selected. the technical layout and innovation strength in the long-term high-temperature new energy storage field were recognized by provincial authorities, injecting new momentum into the development of green low-carbon energy storage industry.

calcium-based thermochemical energy storage relies on the reversible chemical reaction of calcium oxide/calcium hydroxide to realize energy storage and release. it has outstanding advantages such as high temperature adaptation (400 ℃-600 ℃), high energy storage density, low raw material cost, long cycle life, safety and environmental protection, and long-term heat storage at normal temperature, it can effectively make up for the limitations of traditional energy storage technology in temperature upper limit, storage time, economy and large-scale application. The project will focus on overcoming key technical bottlenecks such as calcium-based material cycle stability, reaction dynamics optimization, efficient reactor design, system integration and low-carbon coupling control, and build a comprehensive energy-saving and low-carbon technology system integrating materials, equipment, systems and applications.

the project results can be widely used in industrial waste heat recovery, clean heating, renewable energy grid-connected consumption, park integrated energy, thermal power flexibility transformation, photothermal power generation supporting and other scenarios, significantly improving energy utilization efficiency, reducing carbon emissions, and helping green upgrading of traditional industries and construction of new power systems. Compared with conventional energy storage routes, calcium-based thermochemical energy storage has significant competitiveness in long-term cross-season heat storage, high-temperature thermal energy supply, low-cost large-scale deployment, in line with the urgent needs of energy-saving carbon reduction and zero-carbon park construction in the industrial sector.
