JinkoSolar: N type ready to take the stage

The solar PV industry, driven by preferable policy and strong market demand, has made great progress and shifted its pursuit from scale and speed to quality and efficiency. As the efficiency of P type cells gradually approaches the theoretical limit, N type has become the focus of attention.

In addition to high conversion efficiency, N type boasts many other advantages, including high bifacial rate, low temperature coefficient, no LID, better low light performance and so on. It also has great cost performance in the long run. With all these advantages combined, Solarbe believes that the rise of N type is inevitable.

At present, N type technologies mainly include TOPCon, HJT and IBC.

Qian Jing, Vice President of Jinko Solar, compared these technologies during his speech at the second Belt and Road Energy Ministerial Conference. He said that, the theoretical efficiency limit of TOPCon cells is 28.7%, which is higher than HJT’s 27.5% and PERC’s 24.5%. Although the commercial efficiency has set another world record of 25.4% by Jinko Solar, there is still a lot of room for improvement to reach the theoretical limit.

The planned production capacity of Jinko and other mainstream cell manufacturers in 2021 have reached 15 GW.

Qian Jing believes that the time for the production line to transform from P type to N type has arrived. As N type has more potential for higher efficiency and lower cost, the surging commodity prices will push the industry towards N type.

TOPCon, among other N type technologies, is the most cost-effective. Jinko Solar, a strong supporter of TOPCon, will launch its new module series Tiger Neo on November 2nd at 15:00 (GMT+8). Its mass production output power can reach up to 620W, and can operate at a maximum conversion efficiency of 22.30%.
