Shanhai Hydrogen was established in March 2023 by Professor Zhang Bo of Fudan University. It focuses on the research and development, production and sales of PEM electrolysis water hydrogen production catalyst, slurry and membrane electrode, and provides customers with overall hydrogen production solutions from core materials to system integration. The company is headquartered in Baoshan District, Shanghai.
the core breakthrough of mountain and sea hydrogen lies in the world’s first full achievement of all three indexes of PEM electrolyzed water in 2026 set by the U.S. department of energy (DOE): performance: 1.72 Vvs 1.8V @ 3.0A/cm; Iridium load: 0.3 mg/cm vs 0.5 mg/cm; Stability: 0.8uV/h vs 2.3 uV/h.
The relevant research results were published in the top international journal “Science”. It is the first paper published in the field of hydrogen production from electrolytic water with China as the first communication unit. It has won special reports from authoritative media such as CCTV News, People’s Daily and Wen Wei Po, and is praised as “breaking through the key technology of green hydrogen production”.
It is reported that the research results are inspired by the “embedding” concept of sesame seeds on the traditional Chinese snack sesame balls, and successfully overcome the core bottleneck of hydrogen production by PEM electrolysis water. The cost dropped by 85%: by embedding “sesame” (iridium oxide) into “hemp balls” (carriers), the amount of precious metal iridium was greatly reduced, and the cost of raw materials dropped from 1300 yuan per gram to a new low in the industry. Energy efficiency jumped 65%: catalyst activity rose to the international top level, and electrolyzed water efficiency far exceeded the existing technology. Life span of up to 15 years: accelerated aging test for 6000 hours without attenuation and equipment life span 50%, stability is the world’s leading.
the four core technical barriers of shanhai hydrogen are as follows:
1. the world’s leading energy-efficient catalyst technology: embedded catalyst structure, excellent activity and stability, attenuation rate of only 1.33 μV/h(6000-hour step test), far lower than DOE target.
2. Artificial intelligence catalyst design platform: Cooperate with California Institute of Technology to develop high-throughput screening algorithms to realize digital catalyst design and rapid iteration.
3. the first non-fluorine ionomer and exclusive slurry: self-developed non-Nafion ionomer, the cell voltage decreased by 80~120 mV @ 2A/cm, and the hydrogen production increased by more than 10% under the same energy consumption.
4. the world’s first third generation roll-to-roll double-sided direct coating equipment: slurry utilization rate> 95%, yield> 98%, support for maximum 650 × 700 mm membrane electrode, MW-level stable supply has been realized, and GW-level production line is planned.
